Since 2010, Parker has built a distinctive sound that appeals equally to psych collectors and pop listeners, making Tame Impala a cornerstone of modern psychedelic music on vinyl.
About Tame Impala
Kevin Parker launched Tame Impala as a solo recording project in 2010 with Innerspeaker, a guitar-driven psychedelic rock album that established his approach to lush, analog-influenced production. The project evolved significantly with Lonerism (2012), incorporating more synthesizers and electronic textures while maintaining introspective songwriting. Currents (2015) marked a substantial shift toward synth-pop and electronic soundscapes, followed by The Slow Rush (2020), which continued exploring electronic and pop-leaning territories.
As a live act, Tame Impala expanded into a full band featuring Dominic Simper on guitar and synthesiser, Jay Watson on synthesiser and vocals, Cam Avery on bass and vocals, and Julien Barbagallo on drums and vocals. The connection to the broader Australian psychedelic scene runs deep, with several band members also collaborating with psych rock band Pond. Parker has recorded much of Tame Impala material himself, handling multiple instruments in the studio while delegating live performance to the ensemble. The project moved from Modular Recordings to Interscope Records (US) and Fiction Records (UK), expanding its reach beyond the independent psych circuit. The Groove Hunter currently tracks 12 editions of Tame Impala releases, including Currents, The Slow Rush, Lonerism, Deadbeat, InnerSpeaker, and The Slow Rush in deluxe box set format, making it straightforward to follow the project's vinyl history.
