Born in 1970, Luis Miguel Gallego Basteri earned the nickname El Sol de México from his mother and grabbed his first Grammy at fourteen for the duet 'Me Gustas Tal Como Eres' with Sheena Easton, the youngest male recipient ever. His 1991 album Romance became the third best-selling album in Mexican history and one of the best-selling Spanish-language records overall. He followed that with Segundo Romance, which accumulated 35 platinum certifications across Central and South America, making him the first Latin artist to earn two Platinum certifications for Spanish-language albums in the US.

Miguel's commercial dominance extended through the 1990s and beyond. He holds the Billboard record for most top 10 hits on the Hot Latin Songs chart. His 2008 album Complices peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard 200, marking the highest chart position for a fully Spanish-composed album. More recently, ¡México Por Siempre! in 2017 earned him his second No. 1 on Billboard's Regional Mexican Albums chart and achieved double platinum status. His live performances generated 278.5 million dollars in touring revenue since 1990, making him the highest-grossing Latin touring artist on record. The Luis Miguel Tour in 2010 ran 223 shows across three years in 22 countries, the longest and highest-grossing tour mounted by any Latin artist.
