About the Baladas genre

The ballad form itself stretches back to medieval British and Irish poetry, where narrative verses were set to music and often sold as broadside sheets. These early ballads spread across Europe and eventually reached the Americas, Australia, and North Africa, becoming a fundamental structure for songwriting and oral tradition.

By the 18th century, poets and composers began experimenting with lyrical ballads as an artistic form. The 19th century shifted the meaning toward slower, song-focused pieces, and by the late 1800s, balada had become synonymous with the slow love song. In rock and pop contexts, the term evolved to describe power ballads and emotionally direct vocal performances, making it one of the most recognizable song formats in modern vinyl collecting.
