Bad Omens is a Richmond-based metal band that emerged from the Virginia metalcore scene in 2015, building a dedicated following through relentless touring and increasingly refined songwriting. Fronted by Noah Sebastian, the group channels contemporary heavy music with accessible hooks and experimental production choices that appeal to both metal purists and alternative audiences.
About Bad Omens
The band's origin traces back to Noah Sebastian's departure from Washington D.C. metalcore outfit Immoralist in 2014. He reconnected with childhood friend Nicholas Ruffilo to launch the project, bringing in bassist Vincent Riquier and guitarist Joakim Karlsson through mutual connections. A rough demo EP caught the attention of Sumerian Records, whose founder Ash Avildsen suggested the band adopt the name Bad Omens, a title originally intended for what became their breakthrough track Glass Houses. Their self-titled debut EP arrived on Sumerian in 2016, establishing the foundational sound that would define their catalog.
The band's breakthrough came through constant touring momentum, landing a Warped Tour slot in 2017 and supporting major acts like Parkway Drive and A Day to Remember. Their second album Finding God Before God Finds Me dropped in 2019, later receiving a deluxe edition with additional tracks including a Duran Duran cover. After bassist Vincent Riquier's departure in 2018, the group solidified around Noah Sebastian's vision, reaching commercial visibility with The Death of Peace of Mind in 2022. Songs like Just Pretend and the title track achieved Gold certification, while the album itself drew critical attention for its experimental approach and refined production work.
Bad Omens continued expanding their sonic palette through 2024 with collaborative projects and festival appearances supporting acts like Bring Me The Horizon. Their catalog shifted toward soundtrack work with CONCRETE JUNGLE (THE OST), bringing in collaborators including ERRA, Poppy, and HEALTH. The Groove Hunter currently tracks five editions across the band's discography, including pressings such as Finding God Before God Finds Me Opaque White, THE DEATH OF PEACE OF MIND Opaque Silver, and Bad Omens - 'Limits + Never Know' Swamp Green + Clear Cloudy variants.
