Twenty One Pilots is an American duo from Columbus, Ohio, built around Tyler Joseph's vocals and Josh Dun's drumming. Since breaking through with Blurryface in 2015, they've become one of the few rock acts to dominate both alternative and pop charts simultaneously, with multiple tracks achieving gold and platinum certifications across their catalog.
About Twenty One Pilots
The group formed in 2009 as a trio before settling into their current two-piece lineup in 2011. Joseph and Dun independently released Twenty One Pilots and Regional at Best before signing to Fueled by Ramen in 2012. Their label debut Vessel arrived in 2013 and made history as the second album where every track earned at least gold certification, an achievement the duo would repeat with their next full-length.
Blurryface arrived in 2015 and became the turning point for mainstream recognition. The album produced two concurrent top five Billboard Hot 100 singles in "Stressed Out" and "Ride," making Twenty One Pilots the first alternative artists to achieve this chart positioning. The album's every track qualified for gold certification, a rare feat. Beyond commercial success, the band has accumulated ten number-one songs on the Alternative Songs chart, placing them fourth historically on that metric, trailing only Linkin Park.
Since their initial breakthrough, Joseph and Dun have released five additional studio albums: Trench in 2018, Scaled and Icy in 2021, Clancy in 2024, and most recently Breach in 2025. The Groove Hunter currently tracks 21 editions across their catalog, including multiple pressings of Blurryface, Vessel, Trench, Scaled and Icy, Clancy, and Breach variants.
