The band formed around Gerard Way's vision and signed initially to Eyeball Records, releasing I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love in 2002 before moving to Reprise Records. Their 2004 major label debut Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge achieved platinum status and established them as more than a regional act. Two years later, The Black Parade positioned them at the center of mid-2000s alternative rock with a full concept album approach that resonated with critics and audiences alike.

Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys arrived in 2010 as their fourth studio album, followed by the Conventional Weapons singles series released between 2012 and 2013. The band dissolved in March 2013 but returned unannounced in 2019 with reunion shows, eventually releasing The Foundations Of Decay in 2022 to confirm their active status. The Groove Hunter currently tracks 14 editions of their work, including standard and colored vinyl variants of Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, The Black Parade, and Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys in multiple pressings.
