The band formed in 1994 with Matt Bellamy on lead vocals and guitar, Chris Wolstenholme on bass, and Dominic Howard on drums. Their debut Showbiz arrived in 1999 with Bellamy's falsetto vocals and a restrained alternative rock approach, but Origin of Symmetry in 2001 signaled their appetite for wider instrumentation and classical elements that would define much of their work.
