About Kurt Vile

Vile's path started in 2003 with lo-fi home recordings made with Adam Granduciel, which led to forming The War on Drugs in 2005. He left the band after their debut Wagonwheel Blues to pursue solo work, beginning with God Is Saying This To You and Constant Hitmaker on independent labels before signing to Matador Records.

Childish Prodigy arrived in October 2009 as his first Matador release, followed by the widely acclaimed Smoke Ring For My Halo in 2011, which earned recognition from Uncut and iTunes as a top singer-songwriter album. The band backing him on these recordings, The Violators, became integral to his live presentation. That same year he released the EP So Outta Reach, drawing from the same sessions and featuring the standout track 'The Creature' alongside a cover of Bruce Springsteen's 'Downbound Train'.

The Groove Hunter currently tracks 6 editions across Vile's catalog, including Smoke Ring For My Halo, Philadelphia's been good to me, (watch my moves)[2 LP], and Speed Sound Lonely KV, giving collectors a window into how his recordings have been pressed and reissued over time.
