Jungle is an English modern soul collective formed in 2013 by childhood friends Tom McFarland and Josh Lloyd-Watson, who perform as J and T. The duo expanded into a seven-piece live band and made their mark with a Mercury Prize-shortlisted debut that emphasized visual presentation alongside the music itself.
About Jungle
McFarland and Lloyd-Watson founded Jungle at the start of 2013 with a deliberate strategy to let the music and its surrounding artwork speak louder than their own public profiles. This approach shaped how the collective developed through 2013 and 2014, with both founders collaborating across disciplines and bringing in additional musicians to realize their vision on stage. Their self-titled debut arrived on XL Recordings in July 2014 and caught the attention of the Mercury Prize panel that same year, establishing them as serious players in contemporary soul and electronic music.
The pair continued to develop their sound over the following years, releasing their second album For Ever in September 2018. Jungle has built a catalog that rewards repeated listening, blending soul sensibilities with electronic production and live instrumentation. The Groove Hunter currently tracks 7 editions of their releases, including Volcano, Jungle, For Ever, Carry On, Sunshine, and Loving In Stereo, with a limited numbered pressing of Volcano capped at 1000 copies for collectors seeking specific variants.
