Black Label Society is Zakk Wylde's heavy metal outfit, formed in Los Angeles in 1998 after his stints with Ozzy Osbourne and his own blues-based projects. The band channels a potent mix of metal aggression and southern rock blues that defined Wylde's earlier work.
About Black Label Society
Zakk Wylde's path to Black Label Society runs through his time as Ozzy's guitarist during the No More Tears era and his subsequent solo project Pride & Glory, which blended bluesy southern rock with metal. When neither a planned Guns N' Roses opportunity nor his acoustic solo album Book of Shadows gained major traction, Wylde regrouped. In 1998 he formed Black Label Society with drummer Phil Ondich and recorded their debut album Sonic Brew, establishing the sonic template the band would pursue.
The core of Black Label Society has remained centered on Wylde's guitar work and songwriting, with notable session and touring members including current Metallica bassist Rob Trujillo, former Megadeth bassist James Lomenzo, and current Alice in Chains bassist Mike Inez. The band's drummer changed to Craig Nunenmacher starting with 1919 Eternal in 2001. Throughout their tenure, Black Label Society has released ten albums, eight of which are studio records, building a catalog rooted in heavy metal with threads of blues influence.
