About Thundercat

Growing up in a musical family, Bruner joined Suicidal Tendencies at age 16, cutting his teeth in the thrash punk world before pivoting toward his true calling in jazz and electronic music. His basswork combines technical precision with soulful phrasing, informed by classical training and a deep study of jazz history. In 2008, he articulated his vision to Bass Player magazine: "I do believe that hip-hop can be the new jazz, and I'm helping create that."

Thundercat represents a shift in contemporary jazz where instrumental virtuosity coexists with modern production and hip-hop aesthetics. His stage name, born from a childhood cartoon addiction, captures the playful irreverence underlying his serious musicianship. He's collaborated with Kendrick Lamar, Mac Miller, and countless others, working across production and composition roles that position him as both technician and visionary.

The Groove Hunter tracks 8 editions across Thundercat's catalog, including It Is What It Is (RED VINYL), Drunk, and Apocalypse (Ten Year Anniversary Edition) with translucent red vinyl variants.
