About The Offspring

The band began in 1983 when Dexter Holland and Greg K. Kriesel started playing together in Cypress, California, eventually forming Manic Subsidal in 1984 with drummer James Lilja and guitarist Kevin Wasserman. They changed their name to The Offspring in 1986 and released their first single through their own Black Label imprint. After recording demos that caught the attention of the punk press, they signed with Nemesis Records and released their self-titled debut in 1989. A second demo and EP called Baghdad led to their signing with Epitaph Records, where they released Ignition in 1992.

Smash arrived in 1994 and fundamentally shifted the band's trajectory, driven by singles like Come Out and Play and Self Esteem that saturated radio and MTV. The album's massive sales and cultural impact helped push punk into the mainstream consciousness. Following this success, The Offspring signed with Columbia Records in 1996 and released Ixnay on the Hombre in 1997, then Americana in 1998, which reached number two on the Billboard 200 and spawned international hits including Pretty Fly (for a White Guy) and Why Don't You Get a Job?. Throughout the 2000s, the band continued recording and touring, with lineup changes affecting the drum and bass positions but with Holland and Wasserman remaining as creative constants.
