Solána Imani Rowe began recording under the SZA moniker with self-released material starting in 2012, building an early following through the See.SZA.Run EP and subsequent releases before signing to Top Dawg Entertainment in 2013. Her 2014 Z EP evolved into a full project, establishing the sonic foundation she'd refine on her debut album CTRL in 2017. That record, featuring production from top-tier collaborators and guest spots from Travis Scott, Kendrick Lamar, and Isaiah Rashad, moved 3 million copies worldwide and established her as a major voice in contemporary R&B. CTRL received four Grammy nominations including Best New Artist and landed at 472 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums list.

After five years away from the studio, SZA returned in December 2022 with SOS, a project that debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and set a streaming record for R&B albums. The album produced five top-ten singles, with Kill Bill becoming her first chart-topper. SOS earned nine Grammy nominations at the 2024 ceremony, winning Best Progressive R&B Album, and secured a spot at 351 on Rolling Stone's updated 500 Greatest Albums list. The accompanying SOS Tour ran through April 2024 across North America, Europe, and Australia before SZA joined Kendrick Lamar for the co-headlining Grand National Tour beginning in April 2025.

In December 2024, SZA issued SOS Deluxe: LANA, a substantial re-issue that expanded the original album with 19 tracks including previously leaked material. February 2025 brought four additional tracks, including the long-awaited PSA and a collaboration with Don Toliver. The Groove Hunter tracks five editions of SZA vinyl across her catalog, offering collectors multiple versions of both her major studio albums.
