About Sum 41

Sum 41 formed in 1996 from the remnants of Whibley and McVittie's earlier band Kaspir, initially drawing influence from Weezer and Nirvana before pivoting toward punk. After signing with Island Records in 1999, they released the EP Half Hour of Power and broke through nationally with All Killer No Filler in 2001. That debut went multi-platinum across North America and UK territories, powered by Fat Lip reaching number one on the Modern Rock Tracks chart, with In Too Deep and Motivation sustaining momentum through radio rotation. Does This Look Infected? continued the trajectory in 2002, introducing darker production and more pointed lyrics on Still Waiting and The Hell Song.

Chuck in 2004 cracked the Billboard 200 top ten and earned them a Juno for Rock Album of the Year in 2005, showing their reach beyond pop-punk circles. Underclass Hero and Screaming Bloody Murder demonstrated diminishing returns commercially, and internal strain from Baksh's departure, Jocz's exit, and Whibley's health battles fractured the original unit. The 2015 reunion with Baksh and new drummer Zummo reinvigorated them for 13 Voices, released through Hopeless Records and certified double gold in Europe. Order in Decline arrived in 2019 before the band's final LP Heaven :x: Hell dropped in March 2024 via Rise Records. Sum 41 disbanded in March 2025 after their farewell tour and Canadian Music Hall of Fame induction.
