About Steve Miller Band
Steve Miller formed the Steve Miller Blues Band in San Francisco after leaving his earlier Goldberg-Miller Blues Band project in Chicago. Signed to Capitol Records in 1967, the group's early work moved through psychedelic rock territory with albums like Children of the Future (1968) and Sailor (1968). The roster shifted regularly through the late 1960s, eventually including guitarist Boz Scaggs, and the band recorded with producer Glyn Johns early on. A notable session credit came when Paul McCartney contributed to Brave New World (1969) under the pseudonym Paul Ramon.
Miller repositioned the band toward straightforward rock starting with The Joker (1973), which yielded the No. 1 title track and marked the shift that would dominate the rest of the decade. Fly Like an Eagle (1976) and Book of Dreams (1977) became the commercial peaks, both reaching high chart positions and producing sustained radio singles. The compilation Greatest Hits 1974-78 sold millions of copies and remains one of the most collected Miller releases. After a return to blues-based material with Bingo! (2010) and Let Your Hair Down (2011), Miller received induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016, though he noted the honor was credited to him as a solo artist rather than acknowledging the band's roster across the years.
