Soda Stereo was the trio that defined Argentine rock for a generation and beyond. Formed in Buenos Aires in 1982 by Gustavo Cerati, Zeta Bosio and Charly Alberti, they built a template for Spanish-language rock that countless bands would follow: sharp songwriting, diverse sonic experimentation, and a visual presence that matched their musical ambition.

The band's trajectory moved quickly from their 1984 debut through regional success with Nada Personal in 1985, which produced instant classics like "Cuando Pase el Temblor". The real breakthrough came with Signos in 1986, the first Argentine rock album to reach beyond Latin America's borders and later become one of the first to transition from vinyl to compact disc. Between 1986 and 1987, they toured relentlessly across the continent, playing 22 concerts in 17 cities and generating what fans called Sodamanía. A live recording from that tour, Ruido Blanco, captured the energy that was building around the band.
By 1988, Soda Stereo had reached New York to record Doble Vida with producer Carlos Alomar, guitarist for David Bowie. The album marked their most ambitious undertaking, yielding three consecutive hit singles in "Picnic en el 4ºB", "En la Ciudad de la Furia" and "Lo que Sangra (La Cúpula)". Their creative peak arrived with Canción Animal in 1990, recorded across Miami and Buenos Aires. Tracks like "de Música Ligera" and "Un Millón de Años Luz" became the strongest material in their catalog, proven when they played a free concert on Buenos Aires's 9 de Julio Avenue in December 1991 that drew 250,000 people. The band's reach extended through electronic rock, shoegazing, post-punk and neo-psychedelia, all filtered through the British and American influences of The Police, XTC and Talking Heads that shaped their early sound.
After disbanding in 1997 following a final show at Estadio Monumental in front of 75,000 fans, Soda Stereo reunited for the Me Verás Volver tour in late 2007, confirming their enduring pull across Latin America and the US. The Groove Hunter currently tracks 7 editions of their vinyl releases, including Cancion Animal in 140g format, Cancion Animal as a limited clear pressing, Dynamo in both standard and limited crystal clear versions, Nada Personal, Caja Negra, and Comfort Y Musica Para Volar as a limited crystal clear edition.
