Silversun Pickups formed in Los Angeles in 2000, building their sound from shoegaze textures and alternative rock intensity. If you're chasing that intersection of 90s wall-of-sound production with modern sensibilities, their catalog from 2005 onward offers substantial collecting territory.
About Silversun Pickups
The band took their name from a late-night liquor store run near Silverlake Lounge, a key L.A. rock venue where they built their early following. After a CMJ-accepted demo brought initial attention, the group released the Pikul EP in 2005 and quickly established themselves through relentless touring and festival appearances. Their songwriting pulls from Modest Mouse and The Velvet Underground, while their production echoes shoegaze acts like My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive. Brian Aubert's vocal delivery draws comparisons to Billy Corgan, though the band maintains its own textural approach across driving rhythms and layered guitars.
Silversun Pickups landed four charting singles between 2007 and 2009, with Panic Switch hitting number one on Billboard's Hot Modern Rock Tracks. Their run of studio albums spans from Carnavas in 2006 through Better Nature in 2015, each adding depth to a catalog built on dense production and emotional weight. The band toured extensively with major acts including Muse, Snow Patrol, Foo Fighters, and Kaiser Chiefs, cementing their status within the post-2000s alternative rock circuit. The Groove Hunter currently tracks 5 editions of their work, including Well Thought out Twinkles and Better Nature among the titles available for collectors.
