The band solidified their core lineup by 2002 when bassist Billy Hamilton and guitarist Neil Boshart joined Shane Told and the rest of the lineup. Victory Records signed them in October 2002, and their debut When Broken Is Easily Fixed arrived the following year. The record established their foundation in post-hardcore but remained relatively modest in scope compared to what followed.

Discover the Waterfront hit in August 2005 and shifted the band significantly toward faster-paced arrangements with punk rock elements. Producer Cameron Webb helmed the sessions, beginning a long working relationship with the band. First-week sales of 26,229 copies showed growing momentum. Arrivals and Departures followed in 2007, produced by Mark Trombino, selling 27,000 copies in its opening week and landing on AP Magazine's most anticipated list. The band's fourth album A Shipwreck in the Sand arrived as a concept record in March 2009 with bonus covers of tracks by The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Saves the Day, and NOFX on the iTunes edition.

In late 2010, Silverstein departed Victory Records and signed with Hopeless Records for the US/Europe/Japan market while connecting with Universal Music in Canada. The transition marked a turning point as the band prepared material blending elements from their Discovering the Waterfront and A Shipwreck in the Sand eras. The Groove Hunter currently tracks 9 editions across Silverstein's catalog, including pressings of Discovering The Waterfront, When Broken Is Easily Fixed Canary Yellow, A Shipwreck In The Sand, and the 15th Anniversary pressing of Arrivals & Departures in Green Marble Clear Green.
