Shinedown is an American rock band from Jacksonville, Florida that emerged in 2001 with a radio-friendly hard rock approach. Founded by Brent Smith after his previous band Dreve was dropped by Atlantic Records, the band built a catalog of seven studio albums anchored by major commercial successes and consistent presence on the Mainstream Rock chart.

The band's formation followed Smith's relocation to Jacksonville, where he assembled the initial lineup with Jasin Todd on guitar, Brad Stewart on bass, and Barry Kerch on drums. Their debut, Leave A Whisper, arrived in May 2003 and established their formula through steady touring and radio airplay, eventually reaching platinum status with singles like Fly from the Inside, 45, and Simple Man all cracking the top five on rock radio. The second album, Us And Them, released in October 2005, took a more stripped-down approach and delivered Save Me, which became their first number one on the Mainstream Rock chart and held that position for twelve weeks.
The Sound Of Madness in June 2008 marked the band's commercial peak and their most successful album to date, reaching double platinum certification. This period saw significant lineup shifts with the departure of Stewart and Todd, leading to the introduction of Zach Myers on guitar and Eric Bass on bass, a stable configuration that persisted through their later releases. Subsequent albums Amaryllis (2012) and Threat to Survival (2015) maintained strong chart performance, with the latter delivering multiple number one singles on rock radio. Attention Attention (2018) became their first album entirely produced by a band member, Eric Bass, while their seventh record, Planet Zero, arrived in July 2022 and continued their presence on rock radio with singles like Dead Don't Die.
