Santana is the San Francisco rock band built around Carlos Santana's fluid, Latin-influenced guitar work. Since their 1969 debut, the group has blended rock, Latin percussion, jazz fusion, and spiritual themes into a sound that appeals equally to collectors of early 70s fusion and late 90s mainstream rock.

The band's foundation came from their Woodstock performance in 1969, which launched their self-titled debut and set the stage for two consecutive masterpieces: Abraxas and Santana III. That classic line-up featured organist Gregg Rolie, percussionists José Areas and Michael Carabello, drummer Michael Shrieve, and bassist David Brown, and produced some of rock's most recognizable tracks including Evil Ways, Black Magic Woman, Oye Como Va, and the instrumental Samba Pa Ti. After 1972, Carlos shifted the band toward jazz fusion and spiritual exploration with Caravanserai, Welcome, and Borboletta, which shaped how collectors view the band's artistic range beyond their radio hits.
Santana's commercial peak came with Supernatural in 1999, a collaboration-heavy album that topped charts across eleven countries, sold over 12 million copies domestically, and won nine Grammy Awards including Album of the Year. The dual number-one singles Smooth featuring Rob Thomas and Maria Maria featuring The Product G&B introduced the band to a new generation of listeners. In 2014, Carlos reunited the classic line-up to record Santana IV, and the group has continued releasing material, including the 2025 retrospective Sentient featuring unreleased tracks and collaborations with Michael Jackson and Miles Davis.
