Rodarius Marcell Green was born in St. Petersburg, Florida, and began singing in the fifth grade before pursuing rap professionally in 2018. After releasing several independent mixtapes, he signed with Alamo Records and dropped the PTSD project in June 2019, which contained "Heart on Ice." The track gained traction on YouTube and TikTok, peaking at number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 and setting the stage for his debut album.
Ghetto Gospel arrived in November 2019 and peaked at number 10 on the Billboard 200, showcasing Rod's ability to shift between bluesy singing and rapid-fire rap delivery.
