O'Connor grew up in Hampshire and started music early, joining choir at age 5 before teaching himself piano and drums. At 16, he picked up guitar and began producing with Logic Pro, attending the BRIT School where exposure to other musicians shaped his eclectic taste. His 2015 self-released mixtape bcos u will never b free caught the attention of producer Two Inch Punch, who became his manager, and also reached Tyler, the Creator, who invited him to collaborate on Flower Boy. O'Connor's contributions to tracks like Boredom helped establish him as a distinctive voice in contemporary pop.
Following Flower Boy's success, O'Connor released Apricot Princess in 2017, establishing his solo identity with singles like UNO and Best Friend. His third album Pony arrived in October 2019 through RCA Records, marking his major-label debut and reaching the top 5 in both UK and US charts. The subsequent album Who Cares?, released in March 2022, topped the UK Albums Chart. A live recording from his Radio City Music Hall performance in 2020 documented that tour before the COVID-19 pandemic cut it short.
O'Connor's influences span Queen, ABBA, Stevie Wonder, and alternative acts like Weezer and Green Day, reflecting the post-genre sensibility that defined his early work.
