Red Hot Chili Peppers shaped modern rock by fusing funk, punk, and hip hop into a style that influenced everything from funk metal to nu metal. Since forming in Los Angeles in 1982, the band built one of the largest vinyl catalogs in rock history, with pressings spanning from their debut through their recent 2022 releases.

The band's early years saw constant lineup shifts. Anthony Kiedis and Flea founded the group with Hillel Slovak and Jack Irons, but neither appeared on the 1984 self-titled debut, which instead featured Jack Sherman on guitar and Cliff Martinez on drums. Slovak returned for Freaky Styley, and Irons rejoined for The Uplift Mofo Party Plan before Slovak's death in 1988 and Irons' subsequent departure. John Frusciante and Chad Smith solidified the classic lineup with Mother's Milk and the watershed Blood Sugar Sex Magik in 1991, though Frusciante's exit during their 1992 tour triggered another period of instability.
Frusciante's return in 1998 launched the band's commercial peak. Californication sold over 16 million copies and restored them to the mainstream, followed by the equally successful By the Way and Stadium Arcadium. Josh Klinghoffer replaced Frusciante for I'm with You and The Getaway before Frusciante rejoined in 2019, leading to back-to-back albums Unlimited Love and Return of the Dream Canteen in 2022. The Groove Hunter currently tracks 8 editions of their catalog, including Stadium Arcadium, Californication, Blood Sugar Sex Magik, Greatest Hits, Mother's Milk, The Getaway, One Hot Minute, and Freaky Styley.
