Peach Pit is a Vancouver pop band formed in 2014 by high school friends Neil Smith and Christopher Vanderkooy, later joined by bassist Peter Wilton and drummer Mikey Pascuzzi. Their soft-spoken vocals paired with guitar-driven rock melodies create what they call chewed bubblegum pop, though critics often tag it as sad pop and surf rock.
About Peach Pit
The quartet recorded their debut EP Sweet FA in 2016 at The Space Studios in Vancouver, produced by Neil Smith's former roommate Harley Small. That same producer handled their debut LP Being So Normal, released in September 2017 on the local indie label Kingfisher Bluez. Before committing fully to music, the members worked conventional jobs: Smith and Wilton as Amazon delivery drivers, Vanderkooy at a local brewery, and Pascuzzi as a carpenter. They left those positions to tour North America, Europe and Asia from 2017 through 2018.
The band has built a steady touring presence since their debut, performing at notable festivals including Bonnaroo, Shaky Knees, CBC Music Festival, and Capital Hill Block Party in 2019. They opened for Two Door Cinema Club that same year across US and Canadian dates. One distinctive detail worth noting: the band has worn the same clothes to every live performance since purchasing them for their first music video shoot, a commitment that speaks to their visual identity. The Groove Hunter currently tracks 5 editions of Peach Pit releases, including Being So Normal, You and Your Friends, and Magpie.
