Simon cut his teeth performing with Art Garfunkel starting in 1956, and the duo became fixtures of 1960s counterculture with their layered harmonies and literate songwriting. Albums like Bridge over Troubled Water (1970) defined an era, but Simon's real collector interest emerges in his solo work: Paul Simon (1972), There Goes Rhymin' Simon (1973), and Still Crazy After All These Years (1975) showcase a songwriter unafraid to shift genres and collaborate with session musicians who understood both studio precision and organic groove.
Graceland (1986) remains his commercial peak and a watershed moment for Western rock artists engaging with South African township music and other non-Anglo sources.
