Born in Liverpool in 1942, McCartney taught himself multiple instruments and joined the Quarrymen in 1957, which became the Beatles by 1960. During the band's tenure, he contributed as bassist, vocalist, keyboardist, and occasional drummer while composing classics like Yesterday, Eleanor Rigby, and Blackbird alongside John Lennon. McCartney shaped the direction of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Magical Mystery Tour, and Abbey Road, growing more influential in the studio as Brian Epstein's role diminished after 1967. The Beatles dissolved in 1970 amid internal conflict and business disputes.
His solo work began with the album McCartney in 1970, followed by the formation of Wings in 1971 with his wife Linda, Denny Seiwell, and Denny Laine. Wings produced substantial commercial success through the 1970s with tracks including My Love, Band on the Run, Listen to What the Man Said, Silly Love Songs, and Mull of Kintyre.
