About Panic at the Disco

The band's 2005 debut A Fever You Can't Sweat Out became their commercial anchor, driven by the single 'I Write Sins Not Tragedies' and certified triple platinum in the US. That initial run established their signature approach to pop-rock with orchestral touches and urgent delivery. Founding bassist Brent Wilson's exit during the world tour led to Jon Walker's entry, but the real turning point came with Pretty. Odd. in 2008, which stripped back the theatrical elements in favor of a more introspective, Beatles-influenced direction that confused some collectors expecting more of the debut's energy.

The departure of Ryan Ross and Jon Walker in 2009 fractured the original songwriting partnership and left Brendon Urie and Spencer Smith to chart a new course. They recruited Dallon Weekes as bassist and recorded Vices & Virtues with producers John Feldmann and Butch Walker, establishing a leaner three-piece dynamic. Spencer Smith's official exit in 2015 marked the definitive shift: Panic! at the Disco became Urie's solo project, continuing through Death of a Bachelor, Pray for the Wicked, and the final album Viva Las Vengeance before Urie announced the project's end in January 2023.
