About Nickelback

Formed in 1995 in Hanna, Alberta, Nickelback started as a cover band called Village Idiot before adopting their name from a phrase bassist Mike Kroeger used while working at a coffee shop. The core lineup of Chad Kroeger on vocals and lead guitar, Ryan Peake on rhythm guitar and keyboards, Mike Kroeger on bass, and drummer Daniel Adair (who joined in 2005) remained stable through their most productive years. After signing to Roadrunner Records in 1999, the band's 2001 album Silver Side Up became their commercial breakthrough, with the single How You Remind Me reaching number one in both Canada and the United States.

Their fifth studio album All the Right Reasons, released in 2005, stands as their best-selling release and marked the peak of their commercial reach. The album spawned multiple international hits including Photograph, Far Away, and Rockstar, establishing Nickelback as one of the most commercially successful rock acts of the decade. In 2008, they signed with Live Nation and released Dark Horse, which generated eight singles and a world tour that sold over 1.6 million tickets between 2008 and 2010. Billboard ranked them as the most successful rock group of the 2000s decade, and they were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2023.
