About Morrissey

After The Smiths disbanded in 1987, Morrissey moved quickly into solo work with Viva Hate in March 1988, which immediately outperformed his former band commercially when "Suedehead" reached number 5 on the UK charts. Throughout the late 80s and 90s, he released a steady stream of albums including Kill Uncle, Your Arsenal (produced by Mick Ronson), Vauxhall and I, Southpaw Grammar, and Maladjusted, establishing himself as a consistent recording artist with devoted collectors despite inconsistent chart performance.

After a seven-year hiatus from recording, Morrissey returned in 2004 with You Are the Quarry, which became his most commercially successful release as a solo artist and reached number one in the UK with the single "Irish Blood, English Heart." He continued releasing albums regularly into the 2020s, working repeatedly with producer Joe Chiccarelli on projects like Low in High School (2017), California Son (2019), and I Am Not a Dog on a Chain (2020). His catalog includes numerous compilations, B-sides collections, and live recordings that document his solo output from the late 80s onward, making him essential for collectors tracking alternative and post-punk vocal styles.
