Born in Riverside Township, New Jersey in 1967, Giacchino started combining music and visuals at age 10 through basement stop-motion animation experiments. He pursued formal training at the School of Visual Arts in New York, followed by music studies at Juilliard and UCLA. An unpaid Universal Pictures internship during his final year at SVA launched his industry career, which has since yielded an Oscar, an Emmy, and three Grammys across film, television, and game scoring.

Giacchino's filmography demonstrates range across multiple genres and budgets. His Pixar catalog includes The Incredibles, Ratatouille, and Up, while his live-action work spans sci-fi reboots like the Star Trek reboot series and Planet of the Apes films, superhero properties including Spider-Man: No Way Home and The Batman, and collaborations with directors like Brad Bird, Pete Docter, and Matt Reeves. Beyond cinema, he scored television series Alias, Lost, and Fringe, plus video game franchises Medal of Honor and Call of Duty. He also created Space Mountain ride scores for Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and Hong Kong Disneyland, and composed the Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios fanfare logos.

Giacchino's soundtrack albums are noted for their playful pun-heavy titles. The Jurassic World and Planet of the Apes scores particularly showcase this approach with tracks titled "Raptor Your Heart Out" and "Gorilla Warfare."
