Magdalena Bay is a synth-pop duo from Miami comprising Mica Tenenbaum and Matthew Lewin, who craft alternative pop with progressive rock and shoegaze textures. Their studio work balances pop immediacy with art-rock ambition, informed by influences ranging from Grimes and Charli XCX to the classic rock they grew up on.
About Magdalena Bay
Tenenbaum and Lewin met in high school through a classic rock cover band before breaking into original music as Tabula Rasa. They formed Magdalena Bay in 2016 while on college break, continuing to collaborate remotely between Tenenbaum at UPenn and Lewin at Northeastern. The pair signed with Luminelle Recordings in 2019 after releasing the EPs Day/Pop and Night/Pop, building a catalog that includes mixtapes and singles that showcase their DIY aesthetic and kitschy visual approach.
Their debut album Mercurial World arrived in October 2021 with singles like "Chaeri", "Secrets (Your Fire)", and "Hysterical Us", followed by a deluxe edition in 2022. They supported the album at major festivals including Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Primavera Sound. Moving to Mom + Pop Music in 2024, the duo released their second album Imaginal Disk that August, continuing to refine their blend of progressive rock sensibilities with electronic production. The band released multiple singles throughout 2025 and early 2026, eventually compiling four of them on the seven-inch box set Nice Day: A Collection Of Singles in April 2026.
