Lil Baby represents the Atlanta trap sound that emerged from Quality Control in the late 2010s, building his catalog through intensive mixtape activity before breaking through with his 2018 debut. About Lil Baby
Lil Baby came up in Atlanta around Young Thug and other Quality Control affiliates, but spent his late teens in and out of the street economy. A two-year prison stint interrupted any early momentum, but upon release in 2017 he channeled that time into music with immediate intensity. His debut mixtape Perfect Timing dropped in April 2017 with features from Lil Yachty and Young Thug, production from 808 Mafia and Brickz, and the distinctive stretched vocal delivery that would become his signature.
The mixtape opened doors quickly, and Lil Baby maintained relentless output through 2017 with singles like My Dawg and the Young Thug collaboration Pink Slip, plus several other mixtape projects including Harder Than Hard and Too Hard. His debut studio album Harder Than Ever arrived in May 2018 with guest spots from Drake, Offset, and Lil Uzi Vert, entering the Billboard 200 at number three and anchoring his position in mainstream rap.
