The band's core came together when James Shaffer, Reginald Arvizu, and David Silveria left L.A.P.D. to start fresh. Their self-titled 1994 debut introduced a stripped-down approach to heavy music, built on downtuned guitars, electronic textures, and Jonathan Davis's distinctive vocal delivery. By the time Follow the Leader dropped in 1998, the formula had refined itself into something that connected with millions of listeners who felt disconnected from traditional metal and mainstream rock alike.
Korn's commercial peak came fast. Follow the Leader and Issues both hit number one on the Billboard 200, and their music videos became fixtures on MTV's Total Request Live. The band moved through several label homes: Immortal and Epic handled their early catalog, Virgin took them through the mid-2000s, and Roadrunner Records handled their work from 2010 onward. By 2021 they'd sold over 40 million records worldwide, with multiple platinum certifications across their catalog.
Collector-wise, Korn's discography spans from their 1994 debut through Requiem in 2022, offering plenty of vinyl to track.
