Kehlani is an Oakland-born R&B singer who emerged from the pop group Poplyfe before building a solo career rooted in contemporary R&B and hip-hop collaborations. Their work spans mixtapes and studio albums that have earned Grammy nominations and charted consistently on Billboard's R&B charts.
About Kehlani
Kehlani released their debut mixtape Cloud 19 in 2014, which landed at twenty-eighth on Complex's list of the year's best albums. The breakthrough came with You Should Be Here in April 2015, a project that Billboard recognized as the year's first great R&B album upon its number five debut on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The mixtape featured Chance the Rapper and BJ the Chicago Kid, and its supporting tour sold out every North American date plus select European stops. By late 2015, both Complex and Rolling Stone had named Kehlani among artists worth watching.
Their first studio album SweetSexySavage arrived in January 2017, followed by It Was Good Until It Wasn't in May 2020, which was largely recorded at home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Blue Water Road dropped in April 2022 with features from Justin Bieber, Syd, Jessie Reyez, and Thundercat, and supported a full North American and European tour. Most recently, Kehlani released the album Crash in June 2024 and followed it with the mixtape While We Wait 2 in August 2024, a two-week home recording that nodded to the original While We Wait cover art.
