Kate Bush is an English singer-songwriter whose distinctive approach to composition, arrangement, and visual presentation reshaped what pop and art rock could contain. Her catalog spans from her debut number-one single at 19 to a career that established her as a rare artist who consistently topped UK charts while maintaining complete creative control.
About Kate Bush
Bush began writing at eleven and caught the attention of Pink Floyd's David Gilmour, who funded a professional demo that led to her EMI signing. At nineteen in 1978, she became the first female artist to top the UK Singles Chart with a song entirely of her own composition, 'Wuthering Heights', followed by her debut album The Kick Inside reaching number three. She became the first British female solo artist to top the UK Albums Chart and the first female artist to enter at number one, establishing a pattern: all nine of her studio albums eventually reached the UK top 10, including Never for Ever and Hounds of Love both reaching number one.
From The Dreaming onward, Bush produced her own albums, deepening her control over every element of her sound. Her singles accumulated twenty-five UK top 40 entries, including 'Running Up That Hill', 'Babooshka', 'Don't Give Up' with Peter Gabriel, and 'King of the Mountain'. After The Red Shoes in 1993, she stepped away from recording for twelve years, returning with Aerial in 2005 and a pair of albums in 2011. Her live return in 2014 with the Before the Dawn residency marked her first performances since 1979. In 2022, 'Running Up That Hill' reached number one in the UK for a second time and number three on the Billboard Hot 100 following its placement in Netflix's Stranger Things, while Hounds of Love re-entered the Billboard 200.
The Groove Hunter currently tracks six editions across Bush's catalog, including The Kick Inside, Never for Ever, Lionheart, the 2018 180-gram reissue of Aerial, the green marble variant of Best Of The Other Sides, and the 2018 180-gram pressing of The Red Shoes.
