About Jid

Destin Route grew up with his parents' funk and soul LPs spinning at home, which shaped his ear for musicality early on. After briefly pursuing football at Hampton University, he committed to hip-hop full-time in 2012 and connected with the Spillage Village collective. A productive 2014 tour alongside EarthGang, Bas, and Ab-Soul refined his stage presence and lyrical approach, leading to his 2015 debut EP DiCaprio, which introduced his distinctive flow and collaborative instincts across multiple producers.

The signing to J. Cole's Dreamville label in 2017 marked a significant shift in his profile. That year brought The Never Story, a full-length that consolidated his reputation as a technical rapper with substance. DiCaprio 2 followed in 2018, continuing the momentum with cuts like "151 Rum," before he released The Forever Story in August 2022, which featured prominent collaborations including "Surround Sound" with 21 Savage and Baby Tate.
