Heart is an American rock band from Seattle that bridged hard rock, heavy metal, and folk sensibilities across five decades. Built around the Wilson sisters' distinctive vocal chemistry, they delivered chart singles from the mid-1970s through the 1990s and maintained enough catalog momentum to chart albums in four different decades.
About Heart
The band emerged from Roger Fisher's and Steve Fossen's earlier Seattle projects, solidifying into their classic lineup by 1975 with Ann Wilson on lead vocals and flute, Nancy Wilson on rhythm guitar, Michael Derosier on drums, and Howard Leese on guitar and keyboards. This configuration carried them through their early commercial peak, landing major US Top 40 hits including Magic Man, Crazy on You, and Barracuda before the decade closed. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame recognized this era in 2013.
After Fisher, Fossen, and Derosier departed by 1982, Heart cycled through new members including Mark Andes and Denny Carmassi. The mid-1980s brought a commercial resurgence driven by substantial radio presence: These Dreams and Alone both reached number one, while What About Love and Never solidified their chart positioning. The momentum carried into the 1990s with All I Wanna Do Is Make Love to You before the band disbanded in 1998, though subsequent reunions proved frequent enough that touring and new recordings continued. The Wilson sisters remained the sole constants through all iterations.
Heart accumulated over 50 million records sold worldwide, with roughly 22.5 million in the US alone, earning four Grammy nominations and a ranking of number 57 on VH1's Hard Rock artists list. The Groove Hunter currently tracks 7 editions of Heart vinyl, including Dreamboat Annie, the self-titled Heart album, Greatest Hits collections, and a limited red colored pressing of Dreamboat Annie.
