About Garbage

The foundation for Garbage came through Smart Studios, the Madison production facility that Vig and Marker established in 1983. Their experience remixing and producing acts including U2, Depeche Mode, and Nine Inch Nails shaped the band's approach of blending remix-oriented production with rock instrumentation. Marker discovered Shirley Manson via an Angelfish music video on MTV's 120 Minutes program, and after an initial unsuccessful audition, she joined the group and relocated from Edinburgh to work on the debut album.

Garbage's self-titled 1995 debut achieved double platinum status in the UK, US, and Australia, selling over four million copies worldwide. Their second album Version 2.0 in 1998 reached number one in the United Kingdom and earned Grammy nominations, with singles like 'Push It' and 'I Think I'm Paranoid' sustaining their commercial momentum. The band also recorded the James Bond theme for The World Is Not Enough in 1999. A brief disbanding occurred during production of Bleed Like Me in 2005, though they regrouped to complete and release that record, which reached number four on the US Billboard 200.

After an extended hiatus, Garbage reunited in 2011 to release Not Your Kind of People on their own Stunvolume label. Subsequent albums Strange Little Birds (2016), No Gods No Masters (2021), and Let All That We Imagine Be the Light (2025) have maintained their output across three decades. The Groove Hunter currently tracks 5 editions including No Gods No Masters on green vinyl, Let All That We Imagine Be the Light in orange and pearl sunrise variants, Beautiful Garbage, and Anthology.
