About Frank Ocean
Christopher Breaux adopted the stage name Frank Ocean after relocating to Los Angeles during Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He joined the Odd Future collective in late 2009 through mutual connections and signed to Def Jam Recordings via producer Tricky Stewart, though his relationship with the label proved contentious early on. In March 2011, Ocean publicly denounced the company on Twitter and released his debut mixtape Nostalgia, ULTRA independently through Tumblr, establishing a pattern of taking control over his own releases. Following singles like Novacane and Swim Good, his first proper studio album Channel Orange arrived in July 2012.
The subsequent years saw Ocean become one of the most discussed artists in contemporary music. His 2016 output included both the visual album Endless and the studio album Blonde, the latter debuting at number one in the US and UK charts. Throughout 2017, Ocean continued releasing material through his Blonded Radio show, including the singles Chanel and Lens, while appearing on tracks with collaborators ranging from Tyler, the Creator to A$AP Mob.
