The founding lineup of Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon, and Randy Meisner released their debut Eagles in 1972 on David Geffen's Asylum Records, establishing themselves quickly with "Take It Easy" and "Witchy Woman". Don Felder's arrival in 1974 strengthened the band's guitar interplay, and On the Border marked their first number-one single with "Best of My Love". By 1975, One of These Nights became their first chart-topping album, driven by the title track and "Lyin' Eyes", while Joe Walsh's recruitment that year replaced departing Bernie Leadon and added another distinctive voice to their arrangements.
The band's commercial peak arrived with Hotel California in 1976, selling over 32 million copies worldwide and spawning two number-one singles. After Timothy B. Schmit replaced Randy Meisner in 1977, The Long Run (1979) continued their success with "Heartache Tonight" before the group dissolved in 1980. They reunited in 1994 with Hell Freezes Over and remained active through subsequent albums including Long Road Out of Eden (2007), though Glenn Frey's death in 2016 led to restructuring with Deacon Frey and Vince Gill assuming vocal duties.
