Formed in London in 1966, Cream paired three musicians who had already proven themselves in respected acts, bringing a level of technical proficiency that set them apart from their peers. Jack Bruce handled most songwriting duties alongside his distinctive vocals, while Clapton's guitar work and Baker's powerful drumming provided the instrumental foundation. Producer Felix Pappalardi joined the operation starting with their second album, helping shape the studio sound that would define their catalog. The band moved fluidly between blues rock, psychedelia, and harder rock textures, reaching audiences worldwide and selling over 15 million records in just a few years.
Creative tensions between Bruce and Baker proved unsustainable, and the group disbanded in May 1968 after recording their final album, 'Goodbye.' They completed a farewell tour that culminated in two concerts at London's Royal Albert Hall in November 1968, performances later released as the 'Farewell Concert' video in 1977. 'Wheels of Fire' became the first double album to achieve platinum certification, cementing their commercial impact. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted Cream in 1993, and they remain fixture on lists of influential rock and hard rock artists.
