Wall grew up in Swift Current listening to country at home, but his musical foundation came from classic rock and blues before he discovered folk music around age 15. Hearing Bob Dylan's "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right" proved formative, pushing him toward writing his own songs rather than just playing guitar. He cites Townes Van Zandt, Gram Parsons, Waylon Jennings, and Ramblin' Jack Elliott as key reference points, artists who valued narrative and authenticity over polish.
After releasing the seven-song EP Imaginary Appalachia in 2015 (recorded with producer Jason Plumb at Studio One in Regina), Wall stepped away from his studies at the University of Saskatchewan to pursue music full-time. His self-titled debut album followed in 2017, produced by Dave Cobb at RCA Studio A in Nashville with a tight band featuring pedal steel, piano, and drums. The album confirmed Wall's gift for autobiographical songwriting and caught attention beyond indie circles when his track "Sleeping on the Blacktop" appeared in Hell or High Water and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. He was signed to Rick Rubin's American Songs publishing, signaling serious industry backing for his unadorned approach.
Wall released Songs of the Plains in October 2018, continuing his arc as a roots-focused songwriter in a crowded Americana landscape. The Groove Hunter currently tracks 12 editions across his catalog, including his early Imaginary Appalachia EP and later releases like Memories and Empties and Western Swing & Waltzes and Other Punchy Songs, giving collectors multiple pressing options to explore his discography.
