About Chance the Rapper
Chancelor Bennett started making noise on Chicago's Fake Shore Drive blog around 2011 with his video for Nostalgia. His first mixtape, 10 Day, documented a ten-day suspension from high school and earned him early attention within the city's rap community. The follow-up, Acid Rap, dropped in 2013 and became a defining release for Chicago rap at the time, receiving diamond status on Datpiff and solidifying his reputation as an artist with something to say.
Beyond his solo work, Chance collaborated with the live band The Social Experiment, which included Donnie Trumpet, Peter Cottontail, and members of the O'My's. In 2015 they released Surf as a free album, showing Chance's commitment to accessible music. He maintained this independent spirit when Coloring Book arrived in 2016 as a free release on Apple Music. His debut studio album, The Big Day, dropped in 2019 and marked a shift toward commercial territory, debuting at number two on the Billboard 200.
