Formed in 2011, Blood Incantation arrived during a resurgence of technical death metal that drew equally from late-period Death and the alien atmospherics of Morbid Angel's Domination era. Their sound sits at the intersection of precise, atonal rhythm work and melodic lead lines, anchored by Paul Riedl's vocals and the band's thematic focus on space exploration and mortality. The early demo releases (2013-2014) and the 2015 split with Spectral Voice established their core approach before Starspawn solidified their reputation with critics like Decibel and Stereogum.
Following Starspawn's success, Blood Incantation delivered Hidden History of the Human Race in 2019, sustaining their lyrical preoccupation with cosmic and existential subject matter. The band's 2022 EP Timewave Zero and 2024 album Absolute Elsewhere show their continued commitment to layered arrangements and production depth. Their fretless bass work via Jeff Barrett adds textural dimension that separates them from standard death metal orthodoxy.
