Bloc Party are a London post-punk revival outfit formed in 1999 by Kele Okereke and Russell Lissack, blending angular indie rock with electronic and house influences. Their debut Silent Alarm became a touchstone of 2000s alternative rock, and the band has continued evolving through multiple lineup changes and a lengthy hiatus.
About Bloc Party
Okereke and Lissack met in 1998 and solidified the band's lineup with Gordon Moakes and Matt Tong by the early 2000s. After performing under several names including Union and Diet, they settled on Bloc Party in 2003 and released She's Hearing Voices through Trash Aesthetics. Radio support from Steve Lamacq and backing from Franz Ferdinand's Alex Kapranos helped secure their Wichita Recordings deal in 2004. Their debut album Silent Alarm arrived in February 2005 to critical praise and UK number three chart placement, spawning the singles So Here We Are, Banquet, and Helicopter. A Weekend in the City followed in 2007 with production from Garret Jacknife Lee, reaching UK number two and featuring the hit single The Prayer. Intimacy arrived in 2008 before the band entered hiatus in 2009 while members pursued solo work and side projects.
Bloc Party reunited in 2011 and released Four in August 2012 to reach UK number three again. The band faced further personnel shifts when Matt Tong departed in 2013 and Gordon Moakes left in 2015, leaving Okereke and Lissack to rebuild with new members including Louise Bartle. Hymns appeared in January 2016 with the refreshed lineup, followed by touring performances of Silent Alarm in full. Alpha Games dropped in April 2022 with producer work from various collaborators, and The High Life EP surfaced in 2023. Most recently, Bloc Party announced their seventh studio album Anatomy of a Brief Romance with producer Trevor Horn for September 2026. The Groove Hunter currently tracks five editions of their vinyl releases, including Anatomy of a Brief Romance, Four - Yellow, Intimacy - Clear, The High Life EP RSD24 EX, and Vinile Bloc Party - Little Thoughts Ep.
