Beach House is a Baltimore dream pop duo formed in 2004 by vocalist Victoria Legrand and guitarist Alex Scally. Their languid, atmospheric sound built a devoted collector following across eight studio albums, from their 2006 debut through 2022's Once Twice Melody.
About Beach House
Victoria Legrand arrived in Baltimore from Paris in 2004 after leaving theater school, where she met Scally through a mutual friend. The two had briefly played together in a short-lived band called Daggerhearts before forming Beach House that same year. Their debut album arrived on Carpark Records in October 2006, gaining early traction on indie blogs and Pitchfork's Infinite Mixtape. Legrand's ethereal vocals and Scally's guitar work defined a sound that drew collaborators like Grizzly Bear, who featured her on Veckatimest and the Twilight: New Moon soundtrack.
Their 2010 move to Sub Pop Records coincided with Teen Dream, which established them as critics' favorites and launched sustained chart success. Bloom (2012) reached number seven on the Billboard 200 and spawned singles like "Myth" and "Lazuli", while the 2015 double release of Depression Cherry and Thank Your Lucky Stars showed their prolific intensity. The 2018 album 7, co-produced by Sonic Boom of Spacemen 3, earned praise for its adventurous production while maintaining their core aesthetic. Their eighth album, Once Twice Melody (2022), debuted atop the Billboard Top Album Sales chart with over 20,000 copies sold in its first week.
