About Ac/dc

The Young brothers, Angus on lead guitar and Malcolm on rhythm, built AC/DC around a stripped-down approach to rock and roll. Their early Australian-only releases like High Voltage (1975) and T.N.T. (1975) established a regional following before an international version of High Voltage reached overseas audiences in 1976. The classic lineup solidified with Let There Be Rock (1977), pairing the brothers with Phil Rudd on drums, Cliff Williams on bass, and the distinctive voice of Bon Scott. This configuration delivered Highway to Hell in 1979, but Scott's death seven months later forced an immediate replacement with Brian Johnson. Johnson's debut, Back in Black (1980), became a cultural phenomenon and the second best-selling album ever recorded.

The Johnson era extended through substantial commercial peaks, most notably For Those About to Rock (1981), which hit number one on the Billboard 200, and The Razors Edge (1990), which marked the band's only studio work with drummer Simon Wright's successor Chris Slade. Phil Rudd rejoined in 1994 and anchored the next five albums starting with Ballbreaker (1995). Black Ice (2008) proved the band remained commercially vital, posting their highest chart positions in decades. Lineup stability fractured after 2014 when Malcolm Young retired due to dementia and was replaced by nephew Stevie Young on Rock or Bust. The band regrouped for Power Up in 2020 with Johnson and Rudd back in the fold, though subsequent tours introduced session players for live work.
